In Your Archives is an ongoing exploration of how Blackness has been imagined, represented, and materialized in Austrian culture—through antiques, literature, music, public spaces, artwork, and beyond. It traces the echoes of Black presence in the Austrian imaginary, questioning how perceptions of Black people have been constructed, embodied, and inscribed in objects, spaces, and social structures.

Though Austria is often said to have no Black history, no Black bodies within its past—claims that erase lived realities—Blackness persists in the cultural imagination. The work asks: If there are no Black people here, why do we appear in your imagination?

In Your Archives was presented as a video installation in the exhibition fruit seeds, curated by Tonica Hunter at the Volkskundemuseum Wien in May 2024.
