Karawoke- Karoke Abend Mit Tayla Myree
KARAWOKE is an ongoing participatory project I developed in collaboration with Dschungel Wien. The project brings together karaoke, guided conversation, and collective performance to explore moments of political awakening and the role music plays in shaping political consciousness, emotional resilience, and collective strength.
At the center of the project are the themes of joy and liberation. I understand joy as a resistant practice—something that allows us to endure, connect, and imagine otherwise. Participants are invited to reflect on the experiences that shaped their political awareness and to share how music has accompanied them, supported them, or pushed them to act during moments of change.
As the host of the evening, I approach the stage as a shared space rather than a hierarchical one. My role is to facilitate an environment where many voices can coexist—where singing, speaking, listening, and taking up space become collective acts. The project intentionally blurs the line between audience and performer, emphasizing participation, care, and mutual presence.
KARAWOKE is conceived as an evolving format rather than a fixed event. It adapts to different communities and contexts, continually asking how collective expression through music and storytelling can foster political awareness, empowerment, and a sense of belonging.
